June 12- Medical Clinic

Today was a good day! Well, baby girl is still having issues in the diaper, but hopefully that will be fixed soon. She actually only wore ONE outfit today... I can hear you all cheering!

We all slept in until 7 AM... yes, I said slept in! We went down for a fabulous White Swan breakfast buffet. Walking into breakfast and seeing several dozen other adoptive families really made me feel almost at home. It is such a great feeling to see how many little kiddos (mostly with some kind of special need Guangzhou is the last stop all adoptive families have to make no matten where you go in China. The American Consulate is here and we have to take an oath and get visa's here. So the White Swan is a well known hotel in the China adoption community. We stayed here 5 years ago with Rebecca. The hotel has 28 floors of rooms, 2 large outdoor swimming pools (though not heated) and an indoor water fall with large fish. Almost everything is walking distance. The best part is we get a complimentary Barbie doll. This hotel is the only one that gives out this special Barbie that can not be bought anywhere (well maybe Ebay, though you will never find ours on there!). It is Barbie holding a Chinese baby. Mattel only makes it for the families adopting Chinese children staying at the White Swan hotel. This hotel has the best playroom ever too! It was much better than it was when we were here 5 years ago. The rooms are small, but there is so much to do we are not in our rooms as much as we were in Zhengzhou, which is really good. It think, no, I KNOW I was getting cabin fever. The weather is very humid. This is the rainy season, but today it didn't rain like it was suppose to but was very hazey.

We started the morning off by walking across the street to get the visa pictures taken. I wish I had Meredith to post because it was so stinking cute! Then we walked to the Clinic. The 10 minute walk was interesting because the streets and many buildings are all under construction. Jason, our guide said that they are preparing for some Asian games that will be held here. The shop keepers here are SO friendly, pushy, but friendly and are always willing to give discounts and free things.

The clinic was not nearly as caotic as I remember it being with Rebecca. She got a quick check from an ENT, they check her tummy, height, weight and temp. I didn't see her height and weight because they went so fast and wrote in down in Chinese. We should get the translations tomorrow. She did really well. I remember Rebecca screaming the whole time. Luckily Nana Joy and Papa Ed offered to take Rebecca and Mia shopping while we were at the clinic. She had a blast buying stuff with her own money and hanging out with someone other than her parents! We ended up waiting a while at the clinic because I wanted to talk tot he pediatrician about her BM's. It took a while to see him. After some questions he looked baffled. He ended with the conclusion that it is probably teething. He gave us some medicine that will hopefully help. It is this packet of powery stuff that we have to split into 3rds and give her 3 times a day. Luckily she doesn't mind it. To my knowledge we didn't have to pay him. I didn't even think about it until now. Several doctors came by and just ooh'ed and aah'ed over Meredith. They always talk about her big eyes and long eyelashes! They all wanted to hold her. Of course if you hold out your hands, miss social butterfly will go to you. Once she starts to lean, you can't exactly pull her away. They were all just in love with her. She is so darn cute and tiny!!

Our room was being cleaned when we got back so we decided to go to Lucy's for lunch. It was the best grilled cheese I have had this month! we decided to go swimming, but the water was cold so we didn't stay long. I had to go fill out Meredith's visas papers so Jim and the other dads took the kids to the playroom. We had an hour and half of paperwork to fill out.. fun! Afterwards, we decided to do a little shopping at Jordan's. He does a free calligraphy of your child's name while you shop, and we needed Chinese outfits for the big RED COUCH picture tomorrow. He said he recognized Jim. Who knows if this is true, but if it gets us a discount then we will go with it! He said that with Meredith's pale skin she looked like me. Again, true or not, he definatley gets my business again tomorrow! I wanted matching dresses but couldn't find the sizes I needed in any dress. So they will just have to be different!

We went back to Lucy's with 3/4 of our friends. It has been a blessing to be with such a great group! We have been so blessed to have had 2 of the greatest travel groups! Jill, the pictures of the girls by the sign is for my Lucy! I will print it out for her when we get home!
Jim is off again with the guys watching soccer.
Tomorrow we go to the buddhist temple/pagoda, Folk Art Museum and local arts and craft store. We did all these things with Rebecca so I am excited to have her along to do them again! I really love this part of the trip! I wish we could spend more time here.

The best news... when we were at the clinic they tried to hear her heart murmur from the mild heart condition she has, and they could hear nothing! They even had another doctor try to hear. Maybe the hole that was there closed on its own! I guess we will find out when we have her check out at home!
